Mixing Patterns in Black And White
I know mixing patterns may not be an easy task for everyone. I have talked about how to mix patterns on my blog in the past. My moto is usually to keep it simple and not try to mix too many patterns or colors together. In fact starting with just a black and white palette can be a great way to practice.
Today I am showing you a black and white look where I mix two patterns for two different looks. For the first look I have mixed a black and white textured jacket with a black and white stripe blouse, and for the second look I switched the jacket out for a houndstooth pattern shawl which works just as well with the stripe blouse.
I started off with our new Stripe Crossover Dolman Sleeve Blouse which is predominantly black and white with some rust stripes added in there. This is a loose and easy-to-wear blouse with dolman sleeves that is made out of a soft rayon fabric.
The front is crossed over and has a blouson effect and the back is straight and longer than the front. I wore it with my black ripped jeans and to take it to the next level, I added a fun new jacket we have just added to the store, our Salt and Pepper Knit Moto jacket. It is made out of a black and white textured knit fabric which mixes perfectly with the stripe blouse. The body is shaped with a side zipper, pockets and a big fold back collar and it is a comfortable stylish piece to wear right now.
For the second look, I switched the jacket for our stylish and elegant Charcoal and Ivory Houndsooth Wrap Shawl. We had this shawl last year in our shop and sold out of them but we were lucky to be able to get more of them this year. It is a classic piece that would work with many outfits and it looks great with this stripe blouse.
As for accessories, I added a new necklace that works really well with both looks. It is our Gold Tone Clover Necklace with Silver Bead Fringe, which is a beautiful piece.
As you can see it is super easy to mix two simple patterns together especially if they are black and white. So don’t be afraid to start with this formula and eventually you can add a third pattern or multiple color combos as well. The more you experiment the easier it becomes to figure out what patterns mix well together.
